Executive Officer of DTEK Dmytro Sakharuk informed about the supply on May, 18 at the press-briefing.
“We made the first test shipment of coal to Poland. The volume wasn’t large, it was 50 thousand tons. Unfortunately, there are big difficulties in logistics as railway infrastructure in Ukraine and Poland does not cope with, it was not simply designed for so large quantity of goods. It is not only coal, there are also crops, ore and another cargo,” he said.
Sakharuk added, there is a difficult situation with Polish harbours’ capacity as well.
“That’s why there is the first test supply, but there are no significant shipments which could be made by sea for example through Pivdennyi harbour [Ukrainian harbour, temporarily blocked because of war – ed.],” explained Executive Officer of DTEK.
According to him, coal shipments from Ukraine to Poland will help strengthen the energy security of neighbouring nation and let replace Russian coal.
“It would be great if Ukraine helped the Polish go through the refusal from Russian coal. During the season of surplus, we could deliver 100-500 thousand tons to them. Our coal’s quality fits [Polish needs - ed.], we should simply learn how to deliver it quickly and without interruption,” added Sakharuk.
