According to the Naftogas press-service, Vitrenko stated it during the meeting of the US Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Commission) on June, 7.
“Our biggest priority at the moment is to impose sanctions of Russian gas because it is currently the biggest source of revenues for the bloody Putin’s regime. There should be the full embargo on Russian gas with only possible transition exemption,” Vitrenko said.
CEO of Naftogas explained that Ukraine offers to freeze the significant sum of Gazprom export revenue.
“Currently the price of Russian gas in Europe is about 1 thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters. So, it should be allowed to transfer only a small fraction, let’s say 100 dollars to Putin, to Russia, and the rest, let’s say 900 dollars per thousand cubic meters, should be frozen on escrow type accounts through financial sanctions that can be imposed by the United States and the EU,” he added.
According to Vitrenko, such an approach won’t influence on market prices, meanwhile gas sanctions are strongly necessary as Russia does not have a possibility to change directions of gas shipments, to replace European consumers, for example, by export gas to China.
“It takes decades to build new pipes from Yamal to China,” Vitrenko underlined.
