This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko at a meeting with EU ambassadors in Vienna (Austria), Ukrinform reports citing the Ministry of Energy.
He reiterated that on November 17, the aggressor deliberately attacked critical substations, which, according to the IAEA's official conclusion, are critical to the safety of nuclear power plants.
"It is critical to take more drastic measures against Eussia. Otherwise, it looks like a waste of time. After the IAEA highlighted the importance of these plants, the level of attacks is increasing. Another wave of massive attacks only confirms the seriousness of the situation," H. Halushchenko noted.
According to him, thanks to the air defence forces and coordinated actions of Ukrainian power engineers, a catastrophic scenario was avoided. However, Russia continues to try to destroy the critical infrastructure for the operation of nuclear power plants.
The Minister also provided details of the morning shelling on November 21, which put the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP on the verge of blackout for the second time in a week.
As reported, on Thursday, November 21, one of the two power lines at the ZNPP was cut off due to Russian shelling. The plant is currently connected to the Ukrainian power grid by only one power line. If the latter line is disconnected, another complete blackout will occur at the ZNPP.
