Mostly low-voltage equipment that directly powers Kyiv residents' buildings is out of order, the press service of DTEK Kyiv Grids reports.
The company clarifies that the simultaneous switching on of energy-intensive devices by Kyiv residents immediately after the power supply is restored overloads the grid.
Therefore, the power company asks consumers to disconnect all energy-intensive devices from the grid during the stabilisation power shutdown (dark gray zone of the schedule): washing machines, kettles, boilers, electric heaters, electric heating, electric stoves, as well as turn off the lights in rooms where there are no people at the time.
DTEK also asks not to turn on all devices of high capacity at the same time after the electricity is restored. And energy-intensive appliances with timers should be programmed to work in the nighttime from 00:00 to 06:00.
The company recommends consumers, who use electric motors or pump stations, to disconnect them from the grid (electric motors give an extremely high load on the grids when they are started). They should be switched on 20-30 minutes after electricity restoration.
Earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the limited capacity of Ukraine's power system does not allow schools and kindergartens to be provided with a constant power supply; however, all educational institutions should be equipped with generators by the end of the winter.
