Power System Status: Consumption Drops Due to Sunny Weather, Outages Reported Caused by Storms and Shelling

Ukraine has recorded a decrease in electricity consumption. However, adverse weather conditions and hostile shelling have caused grid damage and power outages for consumers in several regions.

Consumption and Solar Power Generation

Today, June 24, as of 09:30, consumption levels were 4.2% lower compared to the same period on the previous day. This decline is driven by clear, cloudless weather across the entire country, enabling domestic solar power plants to operate at maximum efficiency and reduce demand on the general grid.

In contrast, yesterday, June 23, the daily peak consumption was recorded during the evening hours. It exceeded Monday's peak by 1.1% due to a significant rise in air temperatures and the widespread use of air conditioners.

Power grid operators urge consumers to shift their use of energy-intensive appliances to daytime hours—specifically from 10:00 to 17:00—when industrial solar power plants are generation at their peak. During evening hours, from 18:00 to 22:00, citizens are requested to limit their electricity use.

Consequences of Hostile Shelling

Following strikes targeting civilian energy infrastructure, power outages affecting consumers were reported this morning in the following regions:

  • Sumy;

  • Kharkiv;

  • Dnipropetrovsk;

  • Zaporizhzhia.

Emergency restoration and repair operations are initiated as soon as the security situation permits.

Severe Weather and Emergency Outages

Due to severe weather conditions, including thunderstorms and high wind gusts, 20 settlements have been left without electricity. The localized weather disruptions have affected two regions:

  • Sumy;

  • Kirovohrad.

Distribution system operator (oblenergo) repair crews are already working to restore the damaged power lines. Consumers are reminded that conditions within the power system can change rapidly, and they are advised to monitor official updates from their local distribution system operators.
