On the night of May 28, a Russian attack resulted in the partial destruction of a bioenergy power plant in Ivankiv, Kyiv Oblast. This was announced by Oleksiy Butenko, the founder of the Biogasenergo company.

According to him, the shelling damaged a facility into which approximately USD 40 million had been invested.

"To some, it is just an industrial facility. For me, it is a part of my life. One of the largest biofuel power plants in Eastern Europe. USD 40 million in investments. Over 400 jobs. A partnership with the EBRD," Butenko noted.

One of Ukraine’s largest bioenergy TPPs

The biomass power plant is located in the Ivankiv district of Kyiv Oblast and was commissioned in 2014.

The installed capacity of the facility is 19 MW.

The plant also operated under a "green" tariff, set at 12.39 euro cents per kWh in UAH equivalent.

Company plans to restore the facility

According to Oleksiy Butenko, the company intends to rebuild the damaged facility.

The Ivankiv bioenergy TPP is one of the largest biomass generation facilities in Ukraine and was implemented with the participation of international financing, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
