Iryna Beresnieva, CEO of Tolk Ukraine LLC (Tolk Group of Companies), participated in the online meeting "Futures Contracts as a Tool for Hedging Price Risks in the Electricity Market of Ukraine." The event was organized on June 24 by the Energy Union Public Association, with the participation of the Ukrainian Energy Exchange.

During the event, participants discussed the prospects of introducing futures contracts to the Ukrainian market—a tool that allows suppliers, traders, and consumers to fix electricity price parameters in advance and reduce the impact of market volatility on their performance.

The meeting participants familiarized themselves with the international experience of using futures contracts in European energy markets, reviewed potential models for their implementation in Ukraine, and discussed the practical aspects of the future mechanism's functioning.

In her speech, Iryna Beresnieva emphasized that the emergence of futures contracts is an important and long-awaited step for the development and stabilization of the Ukrainian energy market:

"For the Tolk Group, utilizing futures contracts to hedge price risks is not only a tool to stabilize an electricity supplier's costs, but also a crucial element in developing a mature and predictable energy market. Fixing electricity prices in advance allows Ukrainian businesses to accurately plan production costs, investments, and export price corridors for their products, thereby enhancing the country's overall competitiveness."

At the same time, Tolk emphasizes that for market participants, the clear timeline for practical implementation in Ukraine is just as important as the concept of the new tool itself. Having a clear launch schedule, operating rules, and participant requirements will allow companies to prepare internal procedures in advance, assess potential risks, and integrate the new mechanism into their financial and commercial planning.

The Tolk Group expresses its gratitude to the Energy Union Public Association and personally to the Head of the Association, Olha Tahieva, for organizing the discussion on topical issues of electricity market development. Special thanks go to the Ukrainian Energy Exchange and Anton Shevchenko, International Cooperation Manager, for presenting and practically analyzing the international experience in applying futures contracts.
