Ukraine transported 148 bcm of Russian gas to European countries under a five-year natural gas transit agreement signed in 2019, according to ExPro's article "5-year Russian Gas Transit Agreement: Results".

In particular, in 2024, the transit of Russian gas through the Ukrainian GTS amounted to almost 15.43 billion cubic metres, 5.7% more than in 2023, when transit volumes fell to their lowest level since 1991 - 14.6 billion cubic metres.
In total, 148 bcm of transported gas is almost 66% of the booked capacity under the long-term contract - 225 bcm. Although in most years transit was less than the contracted capacity, in 2021 transit volumes exceeded the planned volumes - 41.6 bcm instead of 40 bcm. Naftogaz booked additional capacity at short-term auctions of the GTSOU for Gazprom, which was more expensive.
From 2019 to 2024, Russian natural gas was transported through Ukraine to 5 countries. Most of the Russian gas was supplied through Ukraine to Slovakia during the 5-year contract period - 108.6 bcm or more than 73% of all the supplies. Besides, 16.5 bcm (11%) were supplied to Hungary, 12.6 bcm (8.5%) - to Moldova, 8.5 bcm (5.5%) - to Poland, and 1.7 bcm (1.2%) - to Romania.
In 2024, the volume of Russian gas transit through Ukraine amounted to 15.4 bcm, of which 13.5 bcm were supplied to Slovakia, up 6.5% compared to 2023. In addition, 1.9 bcm of Russian gas was supplied to Moldova, down 1.8% compared to 2023.
