Ukraine's Power Grid Status: Consumption Drops, But ZNPP Back on Diesel Generators Due to Shelling

11.06.2026 11:01

Electricity consumption in Ukraine has decreased; however, due to Russian attacks, the Zaporizhzhia NPP has once again been disconnected from the grid, and infrastructure in frontline regions remains damaged.

Consequences of Enemy Attacks and the Situation at ZNPP

Russian forces continue to deliberately target civilian energy infrastructure. Following drone strikes and artillery shelling, power outages were reported on the morning of June 11 across six frontline regions:

  • Sumy;

  • Kharkiv;

  • Donetsk;

  • Dnipropetrovsk;

  • Zaporizhzhia;

  • Kherson.

Emergency repair operations are underway wherever the security situation permits. Power engineers are working extensively to restore the damaged equipment as quickly as possible.

Additionally, during an evening air raid alert triggered by enemy shelling, a high-voltage line supplying the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP disconnected. The plant has once again switched to backup diesel generators. Currently, there are no proper safety conditions to inspect and repair the line due to ongoing security risks. This marks the 19th full blackout at the ZNPP since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.

Consumption Dynamics and Solar Power Generation

As of 09:30 on Thursday, June 11, electricity consumption in Ukraine was 1.2% lower compared to the same time on the previous day. This reduction in grid load is attributed to clear weather conditions across the entire country, which allow domestic solar power plants to operate efficiently and cover household needs without relying heavily on the general grid.

Regarding the previous day, June 10, the daily peak consumption was again recorded during the evening hours. It remained at the same level as the peak observed on Tuesday, June 9.

Recommendations for Consumers

To ensure the stable operation of the power grid, citizens are urged to distribute their electricity usage rationally:

  • From 10:00 to 15:00 — Shift active electricity consumption to this time frame, as industrial solar power plants operate at their highest efficiency during these hours.

  • From 18:00 to 22:00 — Limit the use of high-power electrical appliances during these peak evening hours.

Energy officials emphasize that the situation in the power system remains highly dynamic and can change depending on external factors.
