Meeting with the Prime Minister and Warning of Risks
Vitali Klitschko stated that an official working meeting with the Prime Minister of Ukraine took place just one day before the devastating attack on January 9. This marked the first personal working meeting between the capital's mayor and the head of government since the full-scale war began.
"I communicated all threats and risks that could arise from severe damage to the capital's critical infrastructure. I reported on how the city was preparing and proposed the creation of a joint headquarters to respond to potential emergencies and manage their consequences," the mayor noted.
Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration (KMDA) Petro Panteleiev was also present at the meeting. Despite the provided information and specific proposals, proper coordination of efforts did not occur at that time.
Lack of Coordination and "Political Manipulations"
As Vitali Klitschko pointed out, there was a significant lack of joint action with the government following the massive strike on January 9. It was only yesterday that the creation of a nationwide headquarters was announced; however, instead of constructive cooperation, groundless accusations were leveled against the Kyiv authorities.
Key points of the Mayor's statement:
Lack of coordination: Kyiv's proposals to create a joint headquarters were ignored until the critical situation had already unfolded.
Groundless accusations: The mayor described the criticism of the city as "politically motivated" and unacceptable during wartime.
Transparency of preparation: All information regarding the measures taken by city services during the summer and autumn to prepare for winter is available in open sources.
City Services Continue Their Work
Despite political pressure, the capital continues to operate in an intensified mode. The mayor emphasized that all services are doing everything possible to ensure the city's vital functions and protect the residents of Kyiv.
"When it comes to safety, health, and people's lives, politics must take a back seat. We continue to work and do everything we can!" Klitschko concluded.
