It is specified that buyers of green electricity GOs can be any businesses interested in labelling its goods as being produced from renewable sources and having a corresponding environmental value. For export-oriented businesses, this will provide additional competitiveness to their goods in the long run; in particular, in the EU market, where there are stricter environmental requirements for the types of energy sources from which products are made.
What are guarantees of origin?
A Guarantee of Origin is generated in the relevant register automatically, based on certified data on commercial metering of electricity produced from RES. Guarantees of origin are issued to RES producers for the amount of electricity supplied to the grid. Thus, 1 MWh of electricity supplied to the grid from RES = 1 guarantee of origin. The National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission is the authorised body for issuing, circulating and redeeming guarantees of origin in Ukraine.
