DTEK Grids DSO Accelerates Smart Meter Installation: Over One-Third of Clients Already Equipped

24.03.2026 12:15

DTEK Grids Distribution System Operators (DSOs) continue a large-scale program to install smart meters. These devices automatically transmit electricity readings, significantly simplifying the billing process for both customers and power engineers. In January-February 2026 alone, more than 33,000 such devices were installed. To date, 34% of residents in Kyiv, as well as the Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, are already benefiting from intelligent metering.

Smart meters are a key component of the Automated Commercial Electricity Metering System (ACEMS). They allow DSOs to receive consumption data in real-time, enabling dispatchers to promptly detect emergency situations or grid overloads.

In 2025, the pace of modernization increased: power engineers installed over 209,000 devices in customers' homes, a 14% increase compared to the previous year. During the first two months of 2026, an additional 33,000 households were connected to the system.

The implementation of ACEMS is carried out within the framework of the investment program approved annually by the state regulator, NEURC. In apartment buildings, the replacement of old meters with new smart ones is conducted for all residents simultaneously and is completely free of charge.

Benefits for Customers and the Power System:

  • Accuracy: Eliminates errors from manual data entry and guarantees billing based on actual electricity consumption.

  • Convenience: No need to manually record and submit readings every month.

  • Reliability: Enables faster response to technical faults within the grid.

The project is part of the global "Grids of the Future" strategy, aimed at modernizing Ukraine's energy infrastructure using Smart Grid technologies.
