The repair of the Estonian-Finnish subsea power cable is expected to last until August 2025 Damage to the EstLink 2 power cable could cause a power shortage in Finland on extremely cold and windless days in winter. This was reported by the Finnish power grid operator Fingrid.

EstLink 2, the Estonian-Finnish subsea power cable, was damaged on December 25, 2024. Repairs of the cable could take up to seven months and cost tens of millions of euros, based on Fingrid's estimate.
On a typical frosty winter day, despite the damage to EstLink 2, there is enough electricity. The situation can get worse if several power plants or power lines fail at the same time.
