Impact of Enemy Attacks and Severe Weather
As a result of Russian strikes on energy infrastructure facilities, power cuts were recorded as of August 5 morning in the Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Donetsk, and Mykolaiv regions. Emergency repair work is already underway in areas where safety permits to restore electricity to all consumers as quickly as possible.
Additionally, due to severe weather conditions (thunderstorms and wind gusts), more than 70 settlements in the Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Zhytomyr regions remain fully or partially without power. Regional power company repair crews are working to restore damaged transmission lines.
Consumption Dynamics and Call for Conservation
As of 09:30 on August 5, electricity consumption was 2% higher than at the same time on the previous day. The main reason is the hot weather established across Ukraine, leading to widespread use of air conditioners. The daily peak consumption on the evening of August 4 was 5.1% higher than the peak on Monday, August 3.
Given the weather conditions, energy operators urge consumers to use electricity sparingly. This is particularly relevant for regions with the highest temperatures, including the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region. Consumers are asked to limit the use of high-power appliances throughout the entire day, from 07:00 to 23:00.
The situation in the power grid may change, so citizens are requested to monitor official updates on the websites and social media pages of their distribution system operators.
