The Verkhovna Rada authorised to purchase equipment for the construction of KhNPP-3,4 from Bulgaria

The Verkhovna Rada made the decision at its session on Tuesday, voting in favour of draft law No. 11392.
According to Y. Zhelezniak on his Telegram, 261 MPs voted in favour, of which 190 votes came from the "Servant of the People" faction. Another 15 votes were cast by "Batkivshchyna", 16 – by "Platform for Life and Peace", 9 – by "For the Future", 14 – by "Dovira", 12 – by "Restoration of Ukraine", and 5 – by non-factional members.
He later clarified that 269 MPs voted in favour, adding that decisive votes were given by the "Batkivshchyna" faction. Y. Zhelezniak also emphasised that the authorisation is related only for the purchase of equipment, not the start of construction.
MP Andriy Zhupanin, commenting on the adoption of the law on Facebook, said that this way, Ukraine will have time to conclude an agreement with Bulgaria before the Bulgarian Parliament's permission for it expires on March 11.
He also pointed out that the law only approves the purchase of reactors, which limits the project's current cost to USD 600 million.
"The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will prepare a new draft law on the completion of the KhNPP, to which it should provide an updated feasibility study and information on the sources of funding the entire project," A. Zhupanin noted.
As reported in a blitz interview with Interfax-Ukraine on February 4, the Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko said that the updated draft law, which would launch the completion of two KhNPP units, resolved all the objections and contradictions that MPs had about the first version. He pointed out that the fate of 2 GW of generation "is now in the hands of the Ukrainian Parliament."
