Draft law banning transit of Russian oil registered in the Verkhovna Rada

On Tuesday, January 7, the Verkhovna Rada registered draft law No. 12380 on the ban on the transit of Russian oil. It was authored by the opposition European Solidarity faction led by Petro Poroshenko.
The text of the draft law has not yet been published.
The MPs also registered draft resolution No. 12381 with an appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers to take urgent measures to stop the transit of Russian oil in the interests of protecting Ukraine's national security.
On January 1, 2024, Ukraine stopped Russian gas transit after the expiration of the five-year contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz.
The contract for the transit of Russian oil is valid for another five years: in 2019, Ukrtransnafta and Transneft agreed to extend it for ten years, from January 1, 2020, to January 1, 2030.
On December 5, 2022, the European Union imposed a partial embargo on Russian oil imports, which does not yet apply to the flows via the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline to Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
The Czech Republic is going to stop buying Russian oil in 2025, but Hungary and Slovakia have not announced such plans.
