Ukraine wants to supply hydrogen to the EU

"The signing took place with the participation of representatives of the GTS Operator of Ukraine, Stadtwerke München, Wien Energie, Open Grid Europe, bayernets, NET4GAS, eustream, CWP Europe, Hydrogen Ukraine, UDPR Hydrogen and several other companies. The Memorandum of Understanding outlines the joint efforts to harness Ukraine’s renewable energy sector potential and integrate it into the European energy market," the statement said.
It is noted that the initiative envisages the development of renewable energy and hydrogen production in Ukraine and the promotion of its transportation by pipelines through Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany for use in these countries after 2030.
It is planned that the renewable hydrogen produced in Ukraine will be transported through the existing pipeline network, some of which will be repurposed for hydrogen.
The Memorandum also emphasises the importance of joint efforts in infrastructure investment and regulatory harmonisation to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
The consortium was initiated by the Green Industrial Recovery Platform of Ukraine, led by Systemiq, with the support of Breakthrough Energy, McKinsey and Company, and with the support of the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
As reported, in February 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Ukraine and the European Union on a strategic partnership in the field of biomethane, hydrogen and other synthetic gases.
