Ukraine increased electricity imports by 2.6 times in December 2024 compared to November, to over 430,000 MWh.
This is confirmed by ExPro Electricity monitoring data.
Imports from Hungary grew the most over the month: fourfold - to 152,000 MWh. The supplies from Hungary accounted for 35% of total imports in December. Slovakia is in second place with 25%.
In November, Ukraine reduced electricity imports due to a decrease in supplies from Hungary.
In total, in 2024, Ukraine increased electricity imports by 5.5 times compared to 2023, to 4.4 million MWh. Hungary accounted for 39% of the import structure for the whole year, Slovakia - 23%, Romania - 18%, Poland - 14%, and Moldova - 5%.
This year's import peak was in June when a total of more than 850,000 MWh was supplied.
Electricity exports in 2024 remained almost at the level of 2023 - 366,000 MWh.
Thus, as of 2024, Ukraine is a net importer of electricity.
