3D seismic surveys are one of the key tools that help increase the efficiency of new drilling.
"In 2024–2025, we carried out 3D seismic surveys on an area of over 1,210 km² across nine fields and two license areas. This already covers about 20% of all the company's special permits," noted Bohdan Kukura, Chairman of the Board of PJSC "Ukrnafta". "Such works allow for a significantly better understanding of the geological structure of the subsoil and, accordingly, more precise planning for new drilling."
Thanks to the acquired data, the company can identify promising areas, reduce geological risks, and operate where drilling was previously considered too complex or insufficiently justified.
This is particularly important for brownfields. Even in fields that have been exploited for decades, modern geophysics helps discover new deposits and refine resource potential.
One such example is a field where, after completing a comprehensive 3D seismic survey, the potential of a new area was predicted. The well drilled there confirmed the forecast regarding the productivity of the reservoirs.
The initial flow rate was 132 tons of oil per day.
The results obtained laid the foundation for the subsequent drilling program. Five new wells have already been designed in this field, with their locations, depths, and trajectories refined.
Importantly, the results of seismic exploration begin working immediately, increasing the probability of successful drilling. Even at the design stage, they allow for adjusting the placement of future wells, selecting optimal trajectories through productive horizons, and raising the likelihood of success.
