Everything points to the fact that Russian gas transit will stop on January 1, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Energy

"What seemed impossible a few years ago is becoming a reality. From January 1, everything points to the fact that the transit (of gas from Russia – Ed.) will stop," R. Andarak noted during his online speech at a DiXi Group thematic event in Kyiv on Wednesday, Energoreforma reports.
According to him, transit will no longer be a crucial element of supply for Europe and for the regions of Ukraine.
"Our GTS operator has made some progress in developing alternative gas supplies from other sources," R. Andarak added.
At the same time, as Dmytro Lyppa, head of the Ukrainian GTS Operator LLC (GTSOU), said at the event, the company is not considering the issue of continuing Russian transit.
"According to our baseline scenario, the flow of Russian gas through Ukraine's GTS will be stopped, and these are the things we are putting into our plan for the next year," he said.
At the same time, as the GTSOU head noted, the cessation of Russian transit significantly increases the risks of attacks on gas transition infrastructure, and Ukraine is taking all measures to reduce these risks.
In addition, according to him, there are 511 compressor units on the balance sheet of the Ukrainian gas transition system, of which only 10 are currently in operation.
"In order to stop it (the GTS – IF-U), such a rather apocalyptic scenario can actually happen, but its probability is extremely low. That is, technically, the system is able to withstand quite significant loads in case of certain events," D. Lyppa noted.
