“On April 30, a panel of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court partially granted the motion of the defense counsel for the former Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and changed the defendant's bail amount from UAH 80 million to UAH 50 million,” the statement reads.
It is noted that the HACC also partially granted the motion of the bailor and returned part of the bail—UAH 30 million—deposited by a company on behalf of the defendant. This ruling takes legal effect upon its announcement and is not subject to a separate appeal.
Case Background
On January 19, 2023, the former Chairman of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, Andriy Kobolyev, was served with a notice of suspicion. According to investigators, the former official illegally ensured the payment of bonuses to himself totaling over UAH 229 million. On the same day, Kobolyev stated that he "would not hide and would prove he was right."
In April 2023, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) announced the completion of the investigation into the Kobolyev case after the HACC refused to extend the pre-trial investigation period. The former official's actions were qualified under Part 5 of Article 191 (misappropriation, embezzlement, or seizure of property through abuse of office) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Later, law enforcement officers filed a new motion with the HACC to extend the pre-trial investigation period due to the emergence of additional evidence. On December 1, 2023, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) sent the indictment against Kobolyev to court. On December 14, the HACC began the trial on the merits.
